About Metro number plates
Metro plates swap the standard number plate characters for a square, wide font with rounded corners – a flat, modern look that's popular on show cars, modified builds and classics with a dateless registration.
On a standard 520 × 111mm plate the characters are 50mm tall and about 47mm wide (the number 1 and the letter I are narrow), with around 6mm between characters and a wider gap between the two groups. On shorter plates they're made smaller to fit. Add a border, a smoked tint or a slogan under the registration.
Are Metro plates road legal?
No. Road plates must use the Charles Wright 2001 font at 79mm tall. A plate that breaks the display rules can mean a fine of up to £1,000 and an MOT failure, so fit Metro plates for shows and display, and drive on your road-legal plates. Show plates carry no British Standard marking – see the road legal guide.
No documents needed
Because they're show plates, we don't need your V5C or ID – Metro plates go into production as soon as you order.
